A meta-analysis of already published studies on the health benefits of antioxidant supplements and aging revealed a potential risk for certain vitamins. The intent of the study was to determine if antioxidant supplements might help people live longer. However the results revealed a potential for decreasing life expectancy with certain vitamins. Fruits and vegetables contain many other nutrients and healthy compounds in addition to antioxidants. Also, there are some criticisms about the anti-oxidant supplement study design that may influence the significance of the conclusions.
